Nicolay Boyadjiev is an architect, curator and editor working at the crossroads of strategic design, design-research and platform urbanism.
He is currently co-director of Strelka Institute's postgraduate education program, where he co-leads and runs “The Terraforming” interdisciplinary design-research think-tank.
Recently he has also been the co-editor of “The New Normal” (2020): a comprehensive record of the projects, process and provocations developed during the 2017-19 design-research program at Strelka which set to prototype new models for urban design practice at the intersection of software, cinema, strategy, and planning.
Prior to joining Strelka, he worked as an architectural designer, researcher and strategist at internationally renowned studios ranging from boutique consultancies to larger architecture firms. He is currently based between Montreal (CA) and Moscow (RU).
Academically Nicolay lectures regularly at various institutions across Europe and North America and is a visiting faculty at IAAC in Barcelona (Masters of City and Technology) and KADK in Copenhagen (Masters in Urbanism and Societal Change). He has previously taught design studios at Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam (Architectural Design Department), McGill University in Montreal (Peter Guo-Hua Fu School of Architecture) and the Moscow Higher School of Economics (Masters in Advanced Urban Design). He holds a Masters of Architecture from McGill University (2011).
